This live album was recorded at the Cafe Montmartre in Copenhagen shortly after Don Cherry's debut for BLUE NOTE, 'Complete Communion' and a few months before his second, 'Symphony for Improvisers'/5(2).

Volume two of the Don Cherry at Montmartre collection continues with more superb music, this time from March This unique performance actually represents the third Cherry appearance at Copenhagen's Café Montmartre. He had just recorded his first album for Blue Note Records, Complete Communion, in December /5(2).

Recorded March 31, This is part two of the recordings from Cherry's month long engagement at Café Montmartre. Cherry is credited with all compositions, but track 3 is based on compositions by Albert Ayler. Track 2 includes themes by Ornette Coleman and parts of Luis Bonfa's "Orfeu Negro" - uncredited, but mentioned in the liner notes/5(5).

This joyously free yet well organized modern music is to some extent an outgrowth of Cherry's early experiences with Ornette Coleman but is much more directly inspired by the imaginative principles and grandly expressive behavior of Albert Ayler. For this reason Live at Café Montmartre , Vol. 2 qualifies as essential listening for all who love and revere the legacies of Albert Ayler and his good friend Don comprecvobackfulli.queranicliposkeworkklanoluncepigs.co: $
